How to Crunch Down on Your Snacking Habits

Are you guilty of mindless snacking? Don’t worry your not alone. For many of us, COVID has meant leaving our busy working environment to working remotely at home. Which as well all know is dangerous. Not only are we closer to our fridge full of the foods we all love but with fewer distractions to keep our mind off eating it’s inevitable we end up looking in the fridge every few minutes. If you want to start making a change and crunch down on your mindless snacking habits we’ve got some tricks for you to try…

1. Drink Lot’s of Water.
You’ve probably heard this a lot before but the truth is sometimes that feeling of hunger can be misinterpreted. Instead of being actually hungry, your body may be suffering from mild dehydration. Try drinking some water and waiting 20 minutes to see if that feeling subsides or not.

2. Maintain a Realistic, Proper Portion Size For Each Meal.
It is so important that every day you eat a proper, nutrient-packed meal. Doing so will help satisfy your hunger, making it easier to keep within your calorie margins and more importantly away from snacking all day! A great way of ensuring you hit your macros in each meal is to plan them. Whilst thinking about each meal, you need to remember to take into account your age, weight and height to devise a meal plan that will keep you full and energised all day.

3. Remove All Temptations.
The best way to avoid snacking is to simply remove all temptations from your home and off your shopping list. This is by far the easiest trick of them all. By removing all bad, unhealthy foods in your home snacking becomes less readily available. This means to have food you're going to have to either increase your activity by going to the shops to physically get something or cook something wholesome that’s a lot more filling at home!

4. Think of Healthy Alternatives to Indulge on.
If avoiding snacking entirely is hard for you then there's a solution. Why not try to replace unhealthy snacks with healthy ones. This way your not cutting out treats throughout the day but instead making them beneficial to your health. Some healthy snacking alternatives are:

Milk Chocolate to Dark Chocolate
Ice Cream to Frozen Yogurt
Sweets to Fresh Fruit
Soda to Water
Crisps to Rice Cakes
